Energy Minister Sees Major Opportunity for Energy Storage , India’s energy demand is set to double by 2019, according to Mr. Piyush Goyal, India’s minister for power, coal and renewable energy. Minister Goyal is a confirmed keynote speaker at Energy Storage India in New Delhi, December 03 - 05, 2014. "It’s a huge investment opportunity" of nearly USD $250 billion over the next four to five years, including USD $100 billion in renewables and USD $50 billion in transmission and distribution. Energy storage will play a major supporting role in this exponential growth. In recent remarks, Minister Goyal said that the Power Ministry would look to energy storage resources to provide electricity to rural India. “We will ensure that solar power generation will touch 100 GW by 2019. Pilot projects have been set up to ensure that every house in tribal and remote areas gets electricity, and we will use large-scale storage technologies to provide power.” Minister Goyal has also said that the country “will be a renewables superpower” – and it’s been proven that energy storage goes hand-in-hand with wind and solar. More Key Government Decision-Makers at ESI 2014 Conference attendees will be joined at ESI 2014 by the Joint Secretaries from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Mr. Tarun Kapoor and Ms. Varsha Joshi. The Indian government is expected to issue a number of RFPs for energy storage and these officials are among the top decision-makers in the process. India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for advanced energy storage systems and services. At ESI 2014 you can learn about these exciting opportunities directly from the leaders who are laying out the vision, setting policy and opening market doors.
