Failures at cell level could lead to a thermal runaway. The runaway condition at cell level could cascade or propagate through the complete battery system. This propagation is an unacceptable event. A huge material damage may be expected. In the worst case, it will even cause injury to persons. Therefore it is highly recommended to deal with propagation testing in order to minimize the risk. Within the scope of this presentation, we will give an introduction to propagation testing and the related problems.
Mr. Wilfried Latz is working for CTC advanced, a member of the RWTÜV group. After studying Electrical Engineering at the University for applied science, Mr. Latz started as development engineer for software and hardware in the field of remote control systems. After nine years he switched to CTC advanced (formerly CETECOM ICT Services GmbH) as a consultant for radio related issues. By now, he is head of the department ESS Environmental & Safety Services.
