Yolanda García Mezquita has a doctorate in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. From June 2001 to April 2009, she worked as an economic advisor in the Spanish National Regulatory Authority (CNE), dealing with regulation and competition issues in the electricity and gas sectors. Subsequently, Dr. García Mezquita joined the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, where, since May 2015, she has worked on issues related to "Security of Supply" both in the electricity and natural gas sectors. She currently leads the electricity team responsible for the implementation of the EU Regulation on "Risk Preparedness in the electricity sector", which is part of the "Clean Energy for All Europeans" package. She is also part of the team responsible for the preparation of the strategy for smart sector integration, which will look at a broad range of issues including energy storage with the aim to build a smart, flexible and resilient energy system.
