ABSTRACT:
There are several harmonized norms for Li-ion battery safety – still with gaps, which were closed long ago in norms for longer established applications (e.g. household equipment).
This presentation shows an overview, how the product safety law provides already a reasonable path (sometimes by national standards), how to cover today and tomorrow all relevant aspects and to avoid the most common mistakes. It is also an outline for the following presentations, which focus on important aspects.
VITA:
Thomas Timke is Senior Battery Expert at Solarwatt since 2016. From 2007–2013, he worked for Li-Tec and SK, both manufacturers of commercial large format Li-ion cells (project management, business development, R&D). Until 2016, he worked at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (project management, battery safety standardization). He is specialized in Li-ion storage system safety + performance and is member of DKE- and IEC standardization committees (e.g. for VDE-AR-E 2510-50, IEC 62619).
