Electric Mobility beyond the Car: Connecting Automotive and Energy Business with the BMW Power Pool
The growing share of electrified Vehicles will have impacts on the load distribution in electrical grid, especially on the last mile affecting distribution system operators at most. Since the additional energy demand caused by xEVs is rather low in comparison to the peak loads induced by "dumb" charging without any loadmanagement, an intelligent energy management can provide a scalable solution. This concept involves not only "smart" xEVs but also large scale stationary energy storage systems and other stationary assets with flexible loads. This presentation outlines the "BMW PowerPool" who controls already flexible assets in BMW plants like ventilations systems of co-generation plants and the "BMW Speicherfarm" which includes used and new BMW i3 batteries. Currently the integration of BMW xEV Fleets in California and Europe into the PowerPool are in the implementation phase. However, in order to achieve a coherent system more efforts on cross-industry cooperation with the regulator is required.
